The Nanomask is a new model of FFP2 mask, fully developed in Portugal, which uses nanofibers to ensure protection in a professional environment. The project developed in partnership with the University of Minho and Poleva, a company specialised in thermoforming technology, will display its results this Thursday, demonstrating the potential of nanotechnology for the creation of new products.
Since June 2020, the Nanomask project sought over the last few months to create an innovative facemask model, which would not only ensure the protection of its users, but also establish itself as a Portuguese alternative in the FFP2 segment. “It was a window of opportunity regarding the acquisition of expertise in the development of PPE, so that we could fill a gap in the market,” explains José Guilherme Dias, Poleva’s Director, in the Compete 2020 newsletter.

The project, developed in partnership with the Fibrenamics platform, developed a thermoformed mask, from a filter with filtering capacity gradient (nano and micro). The technology is designed for use in a professional environment. The main goal of the project focused on attaining the FFP2 level certification, according to the parameters of the EN 149 Standard.
